Our Story
When we think about the traditional ways our ancestors lived, life looks a lot less complicated. At its core, ancestral living embraces the ways in which natural rhythms have sustained humanity for centuries. While it's not necessary to reject everything in the modern world, it is about finding harmony in nature's cycle, where the old and the new are synergistic.
How is it that we live in a world with rapid advancements yet there's more disease and sick people than ever before? Chronic disease may be the new normal but it definitely is not normal. So what has changed in this life that has caused people to go from being naturally inclined towards optimal health to diagnosis after diagnosis?
Our environment is hardly recognizable from the way our ancestors lived. They slept soundly, ate one ingredient foods, exercised naturally with their daily rhythms, and didn't consume, inject or apply hundreds of lab made chemicals to their bodies daily. It was a simpler time when people lived off the land and utilized every part of an animal, leaving no waste behind. This included the meat, bones, organs and fat.
Our Herbalist + Founder
Hi friends! I’m Jess, founder of Honey Moo.
My passion for holistic and traditional living rooted deeply when I became pregnant with my first child in 2020. I made it my goal to do as much research as possible so that I could make the most informed decisions for my family. Let's just say it didn't take long for rabbit hole after rabbit hole to reveal itself. Especially in the year 2020, if you know, you know.
One of the questions I remember asking my husband during that pregnancy was why there were 100 different skincare products and supplements for a newborn baby. Wasn't less, more? I grabbed a couple sprigs of lavender and rosemary from our garden and started experimenting with different infusion methods. The final result was a lavender, rosemary and raw honey infused tallow balm. We used it for everything under the sun. It was all purpose, nourishing and it made sense! From that day forward I began crafting just about all of our household products with wild harvested or homegrown herbs and animal fats.
"I wasn't always living a life full of wellness."
It took a lot of learning the hard way to realize that there was another way of life. Let’s just say having a hospital birth in 2020 is something only mother’s in 2020 will understand. After months of blaming myself for everything that went wrong during my son’s birth I finally took back my autonomy and it became clear that I was far from informed.
Since then, I’ve taken it upon myself to be fully transparent when it comes to the sourcing of our ingredients, so that you don’t have to question what you’re putting in or on your body. The way I craft my products walks hand in hand with the way I choose to nourish my family. By incorporating high quality, regenerative, animal foods, avoiding PUFA-rich seed oils, and consuming whole food ingredients, I can ensure a diet pack with nutrient density.
As we enter a new season of life, our family has decided to relocate to the rural mountains of the Pacific Northwest to live closer with nature. It is a place to truly call home. My plan for the company as we continue to expand is to grow all of the herbs I use in my formulas, and to raise our animals on this regenerative land. I will be bringing our third child into the world this summer and having my second home birth, which feels like an unbelievable blessing. As our family continues to grow, so does the expansion of Honey Moo’s skincare and wellness products!
